 ABOUT VIETNAM

 

 

Vietnam is a long and narrow country, lying completely in the tropical zone. Its landmass forms the shape the letter S on the east side of the Indo-chinese Peninsula in Southeast Asia. Vietnamese eastern border consists of more than 3,000 km of coastline, facing the East Sea and the Pacific Ocean. To the north, Vietnam shares its border with China, while to the west, with Cambodia and Laos.

 

The country has a total population of 80 million people. The total area of the land mass is 128,066 sq mi with over 1,000 miles in length. It has 57 Provinces with Hanoi city as the capital of the country. Vietnam's S-shaped landmass widens in the north and in the south.

 

Overview of Hau Giang Province

 

Hau Giang Province was formed in 2004 when the former Can Tho Province was separated into Can Tho City and Hau Giang. The province is famous for Phung Hiep Floating Market. This is a agricultural province, and has advantage of growing rice and fruit tree as well as rearing aquaculture. Hau Giang is still considered a poor province.

 

Area: 1,608 sq. km. (1,005 sq. mile)

Population: 781,000 (2004)

Capital: Vi Thanh Town

Economic Growth Rate: 10.1% (2005)

GDP per capita: $ 421.00 (2005)

No. of Poor Families: 24% (2005)

 

Geographical features

 

Hau Giang belongs to Mekong Delta. It borders with Can Tho City, Vinh Long Province on the north, Bac Lieu Province on the south, Soc Trang Province on the east, and Kien Giang Province on the west. Hau Giang is located on complicated network of rivers, springs, and canals such as: Hau, Cai Tu rivers, Quan Lo, Phung Hiep, Xa No, Xang Nang Mau canals.
 

Climate

 

The climate is harmonized with few of storms. It is hot and humid throughout the year. Rainy season lasts from May to November and dry season lasts from December to April. The annual average temperature is 27șC (80oF).
