Keeping in view the idea that diversity of peoples and cultures is integral to the development and advancement of a community; and realizing the contributions of local Nepali community in bringing diversity of life and culture to Boulder; and at the same time acknowledging the fact that similarity of topography of Nepal and Boulder attracting numerous climbers, hikers and bikers to visit Nepal from Boulder each year and generous help being provided in health and education to Nepal and her people by the Boulder community; the City of Boulder has declared the third Sunday of April each year, which is New Year’s Day according to the Nepali Calendar, to celebrate the pride of being a Nepali in the United States of America.

Boulder is the first city in the United States of America to recognize a Nepal Day. This day marks the Nepali new year and symbolizes unity among Nepalese living in Colorado. This also exhibits a cordial relationship between Americans and Nepalese people.
